World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles

Los Angeles and other cities around the world are being bombarded by meteors that seem to be slowing down once they hit the earth’s atmosphere. The earth is suddenly being invaded by space aliens that have landed off the shore of LA, and who begin killing everybody along the beach. The military is ordered into action. Marine Staff Sergeant Nantz (Aaron Eckhart), who was about to retire, is reassigned to a new platoon. The platoon, flown by chopper to the forward operating base at Santa Monica Airport, is being led by a new 2nd Lt. Martinez (Ramon Rodriguez). They are sent on a mission to rescue some civilians who are trapped at the police station within alien territory. They only have 3 hours to complete their mission and get out before the Air Force bombs that zone. –imdb

Not talking about the technical stuffs like “Why did the alien need water”, “If they only needed water then why did they attack the city areas”, and there are many more of these kinda questions, I enjoyed the movie a lot. So what the movie had lot of cliches(which may I warn you, are a lot of), these kind of movies are supposed to be cliched. It’s only matter of if the movie entertained you or not.

The best thing about the movie is it’s not the typical alien invasion movie, the plot of the movie however may not be original but the way the movie is presented is awsome. The story revolves entirely around the marines. We won’t know much about the aliens because it is shown from the viewpoint of the marines. We only get to know about the aliens as much as the marines do. Nothing more, nothing less. We just know alien has attacked the earth, and they are destroying the planet.

Battle: Los Angeles is a pretty neat example of what you’ll get if you combine camera style of “Cloverfield”, basic plot of “The Independence Day” and the atmosphere of “Black Hawk Down” together.

Still of Aaron Eckhart in Battle: Los Angeles

The story line doesn’t have to be perfect for this given situation, your planet is being over taken by ruthless aliens and the first thing on your mind would definitely be “whats the storyline!”… i think not. It realistically shows how the Military would react to the situation to the most realistic level possible and although the story is lacking it still pulls you in and doesn’t let go until the credits rol

It’s full of action from start to end with some emotional moments in between. Acting wise Aaron Eckhart is great as the retiring marine with his own dark past.He gets into the character. Other character doesn’t have much of a story but they all are good.

All in all, full entertainment although not the best. Give it a watch for the action and Aaron Eckhart. The CGI is great as well.
